The Ultimate Guide to Wedding Signs: Why You Need Them & How to Display Them

As a boutique for wedding stationery and signage, we think wedding signs are an important piece of any couple’s special day. But although we might be biased, there are many good reasons to invest in beautiful wedding signage! Not only are signs a great way to maximize your wedding aesthetic and create a cohesive event, but they’re also functional elements of your day that help create a smooth, stress-free experience for you and your guests.

Everything You Need To Know For Seriously Stunning Wedding Signage

Wedding signs are so versatile, coming in various materials and sizes that you can tailor to your desired aesthetic and needs. Additionally, you have diverse options for displaying and decorating them. Keep reading to learn everything you need to know about wedding signs. Plus, find out how you can win a free wedding welcome sign!

Why Do I Need Wedding Signs?

Wedding signs are a must-have wedding décor item. After florals, they’re the simplest way to ensure your wedding colors and theme carry throughout your event to create a cohesive design. They also add personality to your event, coming in an array of colors, shapes, and statement-making sizes.

However, wedding signs aren’t just beautiful pieces of décor. They’re also functional! They blend into the aesthetic of your event while conveying important information that your guests need to know, such as their assigned table and seat, where to find the bathroom, or what to do with their cell phones during your ceremony.

Common Materials and Sizes

Wedding signs come in many materials, both natural and synthetic. The material you choose depends upon your wedding aesthetic and the desired look.

Gatorboard is sturdy and versatile, coming in an array of colors you can match to the rest of your wedding palette. It has a matte finish and is fade-resistant. Lily & Roe Co.’s gatorboard wedding signs are professionally printed with UV ink directly onto the material for a full-color finish that wows!

Conversely, acrylic signs have a glossy finish perfect for modern weddings. Like our gatorboard signs, we use a professional UV ink printer to print your design directly onto the material. Acrylic is more durable than glass and is great for indoor and outdoor use, but just be careful not to scratch it! When you receive your acrylic Lily & Roe Co. sign, we recommend keeping it in the plastic packaging until you’re ready to display it.

Wedding signs can also be any size, depending on the function of the sign and the statement you’re trying to make. Some common sizes include:

  • Large Statement Sign (6’)
  • Welcome Sign or Seating Chart (24”x36”)
  • Bar or Table Sign (8”x10” or 11”x14”)

How to Display Your Wedding Signs

For displaying your wedding signs, you have several options. Some of the most popular include sign stands, frames, and easels. Once again, your choice depends upon the aesthetic you want to convey. Sign stands are usually made from wood or acrylic in a block shape, into which you can insert your signs. Accordingly, they fit a range of wedding styles. Likewise, easels come in wooden, metallic, and acrylic varieties to suit your desired look.

For an elegant, vintage-inspired feel, you may opt for an ornate gold or silver frame to hold your sign. If you choose this option, you will need to add drilled holes to the sign. But not to worry, Lily & Roe Co. can do this for you! We’ll drill holes that are 3/8" in diameter, placed 0.5-1.5 inches from the top corners of your sign.

While we do not sell sign stands or frames, we’ve created a guide to help you find the perfect stands for your wedding signage displays. Learn more about your options with our Beginner’s Guide to Wedding Sign Stands!

Decorating Your Wedding Signs

Beyond displaying your wedding signs with stands, frames, or easels, you also have the option to decorate them. One of the best ways to do this is with florals! For example, a spray of florals coordinated with your wedding color palette at the top or bottom corner of your sign adds the perfect finishing touch. However, florals aren’t your only option. Drapery also looks beautiful on a wedding sign (as long as it doesn’t obscure the words!), and ribbon bows tied at the top corners are an on-trend choice.
